Sydney Dragon Boat Festival

Over an action-packed three days, dragon boats took over Darling Harbour with over 100,000 spectators from the general public and over 3,000 participants including paddlers, family and friends coming together for the Sydney Dragon Boats Festival 2024.
The weekend saw four major events take place;

1. The 2nd Sydney International Dragon Boat Championships,
2. The 41st Regional NSW Championships
3. The All Cancer Survivor Grand Finals
4. The Corporate Championships

CYL Black emerged as champions of the Sydney International Dragon Boat Championships, winning by a mere second, followed by Melbourne Flames Gold and Sloths Purple taking second and third spot respectively.

CYL is not just a social dragon boat club. It is renowned for bringing couples together including bank Chair Raymond Tai and wife Clarissa who met as young hopefuls, and we understand, their team was also famously renowned as the “Love Boat” at the time.

The specially commissioned international cup was forged by acclaimed artisan Adam Hawthorn, and commissioned by Community Bank Sydney so it can serve as a perpetual trophy to honour winners in the years to come.

Kudos and well-deserving accolades go to the organisers, Dragon Boat NSW, marshalls from the AusDB and volunteers. International and local broadcast television crews covered the event and Community Bank Sydney played a role as a major partner. We hosted the Hospitality Chill Out Zone.

In this area, food and beverages sales raised generous donations of over A$2,000 for the Childrens’ Tumour Foundation with volunteers from the UTS Soul program helping out across the 3 days.

Community Bank Sydney, in full regalia, also sent in two crews of 40 people and in paddling goodwill, formed deeper relationships with the community!
